TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My goal in teaching is simple: to have my students understand that philosophy impacts not only their chosen majors but the way that they live their everyday lives. Philosophy is often portrayed as an esoteric study that has little practical implication for life outside of the university. However, studies show that philosophy students do well on a range of standardized tests and have higher mid-career salaries compared to other disciplines in the Humanities. Philosophy, and the critical thinking it requires, has enriched my life and my aim is to convey philosophy’s value to student’s lives outside of the classroom.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
To date, I have taught 47 classes (41 in-person and 6 online) with full teaching responsibilities at 7 different institutions. This includes 5 academic years with a 3/3 course load. I have taught at large public land-grant research universities (Virginia Tech, UMass Amherst), at large public community colleges (Lone Star College System – North Harris and University Park Campuses), at small public universities (Radford University), at private religiously affiliated liberal arts universities (High Point University), and private liberal arts research universities (Wake Forest University). In this time, I have taught a variety of different lower division courses (Intro Philosophy, Intro Ethics, Intro Metaphysics and Epistemology, Logic) along with upper division courses (Medical Ethics, Business Ethics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Science, X-Phi), to a variety of different student populations (including predominately first-generation college students where English is a second language). In the future, I hope to teach additional applied ethics courses (e.g. Digital and Technology Ethics – draft syllabus available upon request) and upper division courses in my areas of specialty (e.g. Philosophical Methodology).
